About Us

Who we are

The Southern Uplands Partnership (SUP) is a rural development charity, started in 1999 by local people keen to keep the communities and countryside of the south of Scotland alive and healthy.

The charity spans the breadth of southern Scotland from Dumfries & Galloway in the west to the Scottish Borders in the east, and works with a whole host of people, groups, government bodies, agencies and councils.

It was great to meet up with Shona and Kim from Dumfries and Galloway Council to show off the amazing work done by our contractors GroundsCo in relation to our long distance walking trail project.
Dumfries and Galloway Council have kindly given us funding from the Community Benefit Fund to improve the core paths between Glencaple & Kingholm Quay and Sandyhills - Rockcliffe. These improvements are making a great start for the development of the South West Scotland Coastal Way, as well as improving access for locals and visitors alike to these busy areas.

An event for those that work in the built environment...

The SUP led Scottish Borders Construction Forum are holding a pre-1919 retrofitting (from EPC G to A) event on Wednesday 24th April 6pm-8pm at Smailholm Village Hall.

As part of the SBCF Low Carbon and Net Zero Construction Events we are pleased to invite you to a site visit of a pre-1919 stone built property that has been retrofitted to a high standard in Smailholm.
The role of retrofit is crucial in moving towards net zero and this event will be of interest to designers, builders, owners, council inspectors, planners and others in the supply chain who are interested to hear about what actions they can take to get up to speed on the design, technologies, materials, and construction methods required to retrofit existing properties.
Architect Sally Ruel will be joined by Jane Miller and Yvan Biot who commissioned the retrofit, to discuss the overall concept and aspirations of the renovations and upgrades (site, low energy and carbon intent, renewables selection, conservation area considerations and constraints) and how the Energy Efficiency rating from G to A was achieved.
If you work in the built environment, please join us for a site visit followed by presentations and discussions on this exciting renovation and retrofit.

6pm Meet at Smailholm Village Hall
6.15pm Site Visit
7pm Presentation and Discussion
8pm Close
