About Us

Who we are

The Southern Uplands Partnership (SUP) is a rural development charity, started in 1999 by local people keen to keep the communities and countryside of the south of Scotland alive and healthy.

The charity spans the breadth of southern Scotland from Dumfries & Galloway in the west to the Scottish Borders in the east, and works with a whole host of people, groups, government bodies, agencies and councils.

(The below video was made by Carlos Hernan featuring footage kindly supplied by the Talla-Hartfell Wild Land Area project, Connecting Threads and South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project.)

We were delighted and grateful to pick up a cheque from the Nith Estuary Haaf Net Fishing Association to enable us to continue with our work on developing the South West Scotland Coastal Way.
Their contribution will be well spent on further coastal path improvements to encourage people to get out and about and enjoy our beautiful coastline.

For those wanting to know more about Haaf netting our friends at Solway Firth Partnership have dedicated a page on their website to explain its story https://www.solwayfirthpartnership.co.uk/fisheries/haaf-net-fishing/

Our hardworking contractors GroundsCo were kept very busy before Easter to finish off some improvement works on the coastal path between Dornock and Battlehill. This work, which has been funded by FCC Communities Foundation and Dumfriesshire East Community Benefit Group has improved access to the core path by changing the gates, adding in a boardwalk over a very wet bit of path and adding handrails on some of the existing boardwalks to help make them more visible after very high tides, when debris can lie across the path and in tidal channels.
This work is part of the wider project of creating a long distance coastal walking route between Gretna and Portpatrick
