WHERE’S WILDLIFE IN AYRSHIRE – BOG WILDLIFE ID

This month ‘Where’s Wildlife in Ayrshire’ is teaming up with the East Ayrshire Coalfield Environment Initiative for a day of bog wildlife identification on Friday 29  September 2017 from 13.00 – 16.00 at the Ayr County Show office at Auchincruive.

Samples will be collected from Low Moss in the morning by the Project Officers, and they need your help to identify the plants and animals that make Low Moss their home. Restoration work has been taking place on this site since January of this year, with ditch blocking undertaken with the aim of increasing water retention on the bog and restoring it to its natural state.  We want to find out if our efforts are paying off by finding out what species are making use of this improved habitat.  With the help of a local expert, we will use both microscopes and ID keys to help us uncover the diversity of life found in a bog habitat.

No previous experience is necessary – just a keen interest in nature and an enjoyment of seeing and identifying wildlife.  This is a free course but booking is essential at https://bogwildlifeid.eventbrite.co.uk.
